Allen has been a Cardon Teacher since 2019.

A well-rounded teacher and musician, Allen Thompson works with all styles of singing, providing logical coaching and supportive encouragement. Allen is equally skilled in coaxing nervous beginners out of their shell as he is in helping polished professionals amp up to the next level in their performances. Over more than a decade of diverse musical projects in a variety of roles, Allen has been a performer, director, pit accompanist, and coach; such experiences have incorporated a wide array of useful skills into his teaching, all for the benefit of his students.

Allen completed his Master of Music in Voice Performance at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he had also attained his Bachelor degree in Voice Performance. While enrolled, he had the opportunity to participate in various classical performing ensembles including the university chamber singers, university chorale, and the UTEP opera workshop. Simultaneously, however, Allen also worked as an active performer; some of his favorite performing credits include appearing as Hedwig from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, as Adam in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Over time, Allen realized a passion for working in other capacities within music and theatre, leading him to various directing projects, including acting as both Director and Music Director for The Last Five Years, a uniquely intimate work of theatre which features pop/rock vocal styling.

Allen’s high energy and calming focus create a lesson experience which is challenging but supportive. As a teacher, he is able to dismantle complex or abstract ideas into digestible tidbits, and build on students’ knowledge with intent and clarity of focus, helping them reach their goals quickly and effectively.

Student Feedback

Allen is a wonderful teacher! He really listens to my concerns and addresses everything very clearly. I see obvious improvement with each and every lesson and always leave with realistic ‘homework’. He takes great notes of lessons so there’s no time wasted catching up each week. I’m overjoyed to be singing again and I’m already looking forward to taking part in the studio’s recitals in the future.

-Emily H., Musical Theatre Singer

I took virtual singing lessons with Allen for over a year– he’s a great teacher (and never any tech issues)! He’s friendly, encouraging, and always willing to explain concepts and answer questions. Allen provided good concrete feedback and coaching that definitely improved my voice. He also helped me get more familiar with my singing and learn how to improve on my own. I definitely recommend Cardon Studios and Allen specifically!

-Jeremy T., Pop/R&B Singer

I have vocal lessons with Allen weekly. Very professional and helpful. Though I was nervous at first, the environment created made it easy to relax and grow musically.
